Poetry

Submit up to five poems (or five pages) as a single word attachment or within the body of your email. Please include a brief bio with your submission in the event that we select your work for publication.

There are no deadlines for submissions given that we publish quarterly.

Due to the quantity of submissions we receive, please do not expect to hear from Merge for at least six to ten weeks.

We appreciate pieces that privilege thoughtful language (syntax and diction) rather than straight narrative, though exceptional narrative pieces are welcome. We also enjoy experimental verse, prose poetry, and short essays that address topics relevant to contemporary poetics.  Conversely, we rarely publish rhymed verse, children’s verse, or verse that is generally nonsensical (i.e. unskilled).

Direct your submission to the editor at poetryphd@asu.edu

Cover Art and Interior Art

Submit up to three illustrations (or other applicable visual art) in .jpg form to badmule68@yahoo.com.

The print version of Merge is now featuring artwork within the body of the text.  If you’d like to submit interior art, please adhere to the submission guidelines above.  All interior art will also be featured in the gallery section of the website.

Please provide your name, email address, URL (if you have one), and a brief bio.  If your work is chosen, you will be credited on the title page of the print magazine and under the "staff" section of the website.

PLEASE NOTE-->  The Merge Poetry print version is a 6x9 inch paperback book with color covers and black and white interior.  If you submit work that is not specifically designed for a 12x9 inch (front and back) cover, your image may be cropped to fit.  We generally use details of larger paintings, illustrations, and other images instead of printing a shrunken version of the entire image on our small cover.
